Oregon Adapted PE Conference
Oregon has a strong committed group of 22 full-time Adapted Physical Educators covering 11 School Districts all over the state. We decided it's time for us to make our community stronger by annually getting together and sharing ideas. We welcome everyone who wants to make a positive change for those with disabilities through sport & recreation.

The 2021 Speakers
Brad Weiner- M. Ed., NBCT, CAPE.
Brad is the 2013 National Adapted Physical Education Teacher of the Year residing in Maryland. He holds certification in special education birth - 21, physical education birth - 21, and administration. Brad has 17 years of experience serving students with and without disabilities ages 3 – 21 years. He is currently providing service to school-age students with multiple disabilities and preschool students with diverse needs. Brad has been a board member for NCPEID and MAPEC, as well the APE SIG Chair for SHAPE America

Kirsten French- M.S., Programs Manager-Northwest Association for Blind Athletes
Kirsten earned her Bachelor’s degree from Grove City College in Special Education and Elementary Education and her Master’s degree from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania in Adapted Physical Activity. Kirsten is a Certified Disability Sport Specialist and has also done graduate work in Deaf Education. She has been with Northwest Association for Blind Athletes since 2016.

Tara Rogowsky- M.S., Programs Specialist-Northwest Association for Blind Athletes
Tara graduated from Endicott College in Massachusetts with a degree in Physical Education. She then went on to earn her Master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse with a double emphasis in adapted physical education and outdoor adventure education. She then moved to the PNW where she started working as a programs specialist for Northwest Association for Blind Athletes.

Heidi Ambrosius- MA, Certified APE (CAPE)
Heidi is an Adapted Physical education specialist with Moreno Valley Unified School District. She is also an adjunct professor at California State University-San Bernardino. She also serves as Co-Director of the Southern California Adapted PE Consortium, SCAPE Teacher Representative, and is on the National Consortium for Physical Education for Individuals with Disabilities (NCPEID) Membership Committee. |
Adam Hamler - M.S., Adapted PE Specialist
Adam is an Adapted Physical Education Specialist in the Portland Public Schools. Over the past 11 years he has worked closely and collaboratively with a variety of teachers and staff at the elementary, middle and high schools to implement a comprehensive ability awareness program. He has had the opportunity to develop and implement programs and procedures to serve all students in an educational environment.

Sarah Spella - Adapted PE Specialist
"Teacher Sarah" comes from Portland Oregon via Wisconsin.
She has taught Adapted Physical Education for over 30 years. Sarah’s family includes her husband Dean and son Nino. They enjoy fishing, boating and animal rescue (2 dogs, 7 cats!). Sarah has taught group exercise over 30 years as well as Spin classes and continues to enjoy exercising to uplift spirits especially during Covid! |

So if you are interested or think you might have something valuable to share with your peers, please fill out the form and let us know! All presentations are approximately 45 minutes followed by a Q&A session, if you would like to present longer than 45 minutes please say that in your abstract.
